Today the Recording Academy informed me that we are above the industry standard for the inclusion of women in response to the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, a study examining women’s role in the audio industry.
In examining 600 popular songs, the study found 16.8% of the artists to be women in 2017 which dropped 10% from 2016. I encourage you to check out this study looking into Artists, Songwriters, Engineers and Producers.
As a father of a 2 year old daughter who already criticizes my production choices, I expect the situation to get better by the time she’s ready to join the industry. That is, if she wants to sign up for this crazy life.
